Oro Bailen
Villanueva de la Reina, Andalusia

We are thrilled to offer the olive oils of Galgon 99. Jose Galvez Gonzales runs his family’s farm and his passion and dedication to quality is inspiring. We had time to meet and taste the 2014 Oro Bailen olive oils with him in Rome last December, and it was a re-education in what great oil is all about. Over the course of the tasting it was clear that these fresh oils were so full of flavor, clarity and complexity it was unlike anything we had experienced in a long time. Oro Bailen Reserva Familiar is a benchmark in olive oil production, not just in Spain but the world. This farm is blessed with an incredible position in the Guadalquivir valley in Andalusia. It's west to east orientation captures rain in the winter and spring and dry, warm Mediterranean weather through the summer and fall. At 400 meters the fresh terrior keeps the trees and olives in healthy condition. In this part of Spain the olive variety Picual is king. I first tasted these oils in 2005 with some of our Spanish wine producers. We've never had an oil make such an immediate impact on us, it’s intensely flavored but not overly bitter or over done. It is so fresh, the oil evaporates on your pallet and leaves the beautiful flavors of basil, thyme, green apple, almond and mint. It is so complex, it is a meal in its self. While color isn't an absolute sign of quality, in the world of olive oil it is impossible not to talk about its chartreuse green color, gorgeous! We also offer the new 100% Arbequina from the estate which now sets a new benchmark for this variety of olive oil production. You must try these olive oils, they are incredible feats of production.
